Preview [ATK vs NEUFC]

Finally, after playing three away games.. Atlético De Kolkata will be hosting North East United FC at the new home venue of the First Champions, The Rabindra Sarobar Stadium.

Are you ready for this game?

Team ATK must be frustrated after managing a draw from a team (Delhi) that was down to 10 men when Badji was given the second yellow, without about 50 mins to go into the game. We felt that the fluidity of crosses & attacks decreased in the second half of the game & it haunted the Red And Whites badly.

Though ATK conceded twice to a 10 men team, we felt that it was the best ISL game for the young ATK GK, Debjit-Savejit, and we simply love him for that. We congratulate him on saving a superb penalty from DDFC Marquee, Malouda, when Marcelinho was ‘just touched’ by Prabir Das in the second half & we definitely think that it was nothing, but poor decision making from the referee, Tejas Nagvenkar.

This is what the ATK boss quoted on being hinted about the penalty decision..

It wasn’t a penalty for me, from what I looked from the bench. I didn’t see a penalty. It’s not about a single decision, I think it is important for decisions to have balance. If he did not allow our players to touch the Delhi players, then they shouldn’t be allowed either – Coach, José Molina

Now that Team ATK are up against one of the red-hot inform teams this season, NEUFC, they need to up their game considerably to be in a comfortable position in the last few games of the league, where they need not to win every single game. This home game against NEUFC, whom they’ve already defeated once in a thriller might just be the ignition required. We expect this game to be a terribly high voltage game, where players will not gift the opponent with even an inch of space.

Up against the duo of Nico Velez & Emiliano Alfaro, team ATK needs to tighten up their defense & they just cannot afford to loosen up their, as Velez & Alfaro rarely miss out on scoring with opponent’s sloppy mistakes.

The uncertainty over Bikash Jairu’s fitness was if not enough, the South-African winger, Doutie has recently added himself to the injured players tally with a hamstring pull & we are certainly not very positive about Doutie being available for selection tomorrow. Having said that, Javi Lara has looked solid in the previous few games & we would surely love to see the SD Eibar winger getting a start tomorrow.. things have eased a lil for team ATK, as they’ve might have just found their Talismanic striker, IAIN HUME getting his form right in the previous encounter, against DDFC!

With captain, Borja Fernandez being booked with four yellow’s, he is not available for selection tomorrow & team ATK will surely miss him! The most obvious replacement for him would be Scottish lad, Pearson. Oftense Nato has also been stated fit & we could well see him in tomorrow’s game as well.. So Nato or Pearson? Only time will tell!

Whatever be the selection, whatever be the team, whatever be the formation.. ATK is in big need of all the three available points, otherwise it gonna almost be DO OR DIE games to follow up!
