ATK Marquee signing The Legend Robbie Keane who has been robbed of an on-field reunion with his former Tottenham strike-partner Dimitar Berbatov were scheduled to go head-to-head on the opening day of the Indian Super League but an achilles injury has ruled Keane out of action until December.

The 37-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur striker had an MRI on his troubled left knee and is all set to miss the first three matches.

As expected he is returning back to India after some treatment in his home country Ireland and may be available for fourth round match against Chennaiyin FC on December 7, 2017.

Keane will join his teammates and Teddy Sheringham at the club 25th Nov in Kolkata.

Keane who have had a great pre season with Kolkata side having netted 4 times including a goal against I League side Neroca FC in India.

Keane is Ireland’s record goalscorer with 68 goals and he represented the country 146 times and although he has retired from international football, his appetite for the beautiful game has not diminished as he is willing to go and play professionally in India and when he will return to the pitch will add great value to the team as he is the focal man of Teddy Sheringham side.

Keane can fill the gap left by former Portugal frontman Hélder Postiga and Canadian international Iain Hume, who was the club’s top-scorer with seven goals in 2016 as he was in superb form when he left LA Galaxy side last year.

Sheringham paid tribute to Keane’s goalscoring touch, saying; “His enthralling skills with the ball and willingness to take on the opposition without inhibition is an asset for any team. I am sure ATK’s striking abilities will be bolstered with Robbie in the side.

“I am sure the young Indian players we have selected from the domestic draft will learn from him about the way he goes about preparing for a major tournament like ISL.”

If He remains supremely fit and is the kind of player who can take the game to new heights. I should add that Robbie’s return and if some other players who are injured too likes of Promising young Indian attacker Jayesh Rane and Carl Baker who has been ruled out of action due to an Achilles tendon injury can make ATK again the title favorite again for the 3rd time and consecutive times in 4 years of ISL stints.
