A string of poor performances has put ATK into a spot of bother, and the immediate reaction from the management was felt as head coach, Teddy Sheringham was sacked and the news was made official this morning. Meanwhile, someone’s loss is someone else’s gain, and the gain has fallen to Ashley Westwood, as he has been appointed the take over the immediate duties. So what can #ATKFans expect from the former BFC head-coach? 1. An attacking style of play : ATK has always played a defensive style of football, but if u don’t have the adequate sources, plans can backfire. ATK has scored a mere 7 goals, while engulfed 12. Round 10 is already over and I still don’t remember a game where ATK played with a certain formation having 2 forwards. Do you? I guess the answer is NO. Its high time coach Westwood changes all of it. 2. Opportunities to Bipin Singh : Bipin Singh has always caught the eye with his performance, but has always failed to make a cut into the starting XI. Why? The only reason is coach Teddy. 3. Hitesh & Rupert to be axed? : Continuous opportunities to underperformers like Hitesh Sharma & Rupert Nongrum has costed ATK a lot. With options like Darren Caldeira waiting at the ranks, new ATK head coach can surely tweek up the team a lil and probably play the lesser used resources as well. 4. Inclusion of Shankar : Asley Westwood has always shown faith in the potential of someone like Shankar, who has the ability to play in the holding midfielder role, a place which has been occupied by Conor Thomas, who hasn’t lived upto the expectations of the team at all. Inclusion of Ashley could actually ring the bells for Conor Thomas, as the new coach may not sustain under performers like him ahead of Ryan Taylor and may actually throw the dice to a local talent. 5. Players playing in the actual position : Players playing in their positions is actually players playing to their strength. Teddy’s selection to make players adapt new positions has certainly not gone well, and how could it go well. The skills don’t grow overnight.. do they? With the appointment of new interim coach, Ashely Westwood.. players are expected to play to their strengths, and thus to their respective positions. Coach, Ashely Westwood will be in focus tomorrow as ATK lock horns with Chennayin FC at the YBK, Salt Lake. Hopes for semi final birth still alive?
