ISL 2017/18; Match 77:ATK vs Mumbai city fc, Match review and Talking Points

Mumbai city fc keeps their hopes alive with 2-1 win over ATK on Sunday.

Still in contention for playoffs Mumbai city fc marched to YBKS to face 2 time champions ATK who already is out of playoffs race however will go all out for a win and end the biggest winless streak.

Some surprising changes were made by Alexandre guimaraes dropping Balwant, Lucian Goin and also not including Thiago Santos. Whereas the curse of injuries continued for ATK as tom Thorpe got injured at practice session.

The match started with ATK going all out attacking, while it took time for mumbai city fc to find the rhythm. Atk were good while making play however were vulnerable at the final third.

Despite slow start Mumbai city fc came back strongly which eventually led to a no sense foul by Anwar Ali and free kick in dangerous position which was well taken by Rozario which gave the lead to Mumbai city fc at 32nd minute. Mumbai city fc crawled to half time with a hard fought lead against ATK. Despite lead Mumbai lacked quality play in first half whereas ATK were equally timid in the final third.

The second half started with a great note for ATK as just after 2 minutes of second half bipin Singh scored for ATK from a wonderful through ball from Conor Thomas which just passed through the legs of amrinder Singh. The young lad bipin worked hard and certainly deserved that.This got the crowd going.

However the joy was short-lived for ATK as Sanju Pradhan cross was well headed by rafa Jorda which eventually gave lead back to Mumbai city fc. The ATK defence was certainly to be blamed for that.

After that it was all ATK who pussed forward to get their 2nd equalizer however was held back strong defending by Mumbai city fc. Lot of chances went to ATK’s way but it wasn’t converted into a goal. Ryan taylor’s brilliant free kick at 93rd minute was hit by goal post which saved the day for mumbai city fc.

The match ended in the favour of away team 2-1 by some smart defending at the end which kept their hopes very much alive for the playoffs. Alexandre guimaraes men’s will next play northeast and Delhi and would look to win the games to keep playoff hopes going.

Whereas For ATK their worst season continues however they did played some good football particularly in second half however was let down by some poor defending at pressure time. They now go onto Delhi to play the Delhi dynamos and they would certainly want to end the biggest winless streak and also would like to have better performances in their remaining 3 ISL fixtures before they go on to super cup qualifiers starting from March 12.
