ISL 2017-18; ATK vs North East United: Player Manager Robbie Keane’s goal helped ATK to edge past the visitors

Robbie Keane’s debut much as player manager ended on high notes as his goal helped his team to avoid bottom finish.

ATK record a win after going 8 games without one as they kept back NEUFC by slimmest of margin on th final day of league stage.

Time has been tough for the defending Champs as they were rooted 9th place in the table which eventually led to two coach being sacked.keane’s debut in a managerial role created much hype for the match that was featuring two bottom placed sides.

It just took 10 minutes for the Irish legend robbie Keane to get his team in lead after a sublime finish from a wonderful long ball by Conor Thomas from the halfway line.

Shortly after the goal, NEUFC had a ball in the back of net by John mosquera but was ruled offside. Northeast kept piling on the pressure on ATK on most of part of first half of play. Mosquera got quite a few chances and one by Helio pinto should have been finished by him.

In second half, both sides had a slow start start. At hour mark, ATK came close of doubling the their lead as mbatha had a great run but his effort went just wide.

At the other end the visitors failed to convert their chances as they managed to do in first half. In the dying minutes of the game, marcinho free kick was failed to headed back of the net by Danilo Lopez who was well stopped by Soram poirei who was exceptional last night and kept the highlanders on Bay.

The match ended in the favour of home team ATK much to the delight of the fans at salt lake stadium. Stellar performance by Soram poirei and some good defending by ATK helped them to register 2nd home win and avoid bottom finish.

Now ATK has all eyes set on super cup starting from March 12 as they play the qualifiers. The sense of responsibility bored well for player Manager as he has already planned for a two day rest and directed his teammates to report back for training on Wednesday for the build up for super cup.
