The much awaited Super Cup qualifiers have started at the Kalinga Stadium,Bhubaneshwar,Odissa. Last day saw two I-League teams go past the over-hyped ISL teams who were rather poor throughout the league stage in ISL and also continued their woeful show into the newly introduced tournament qualifiers. Ultimately its a game of football that you play for the full 90 mins & more and it all depends on how you fare there, the status of the two concurrent leagues hardly matter atleast in a clash between the bottom placed sides. Speaking of such, tonight ATK take on the likes of Chennai City FC who have sprung upsets offlate in the recently concluded I-league and are in a good grove. So are ATK one would think having won their last encounter with Northeast United FC via a player-manager-marquee, Irish legend Robbie Keane goal. It awaits to be an exciting clash tonight.
ATK, incharge of marquee, Robbie Keane will look to play a different brand of football in this Super Cup as has been put forward by him. This will be a fresh start and the side certainly has the X-factor in them to turn things around if the strategies fall in place and the players succeed in executing them. Likes of Zequinha, Mbatha, Jordi Figueras along with Keane are any day a better pick than those foreigners in the Chennai City FC line up. They being right back defender, Veniamin Shumeiko, right winger, Dong-Hyeon Kim and French striker, Jean-Michel Joachim. While ATK clearly has an upper hand here on merit, the I-League side boasts of better Indian players in form, like Michael Soosairaj, Edvin Vanspaul, Sinivasan Pandiyan compared to a Hitesh Sharma, Shankar Sampingiraj or Rupert Nongrum of ATK in the middle. In the battle of defense, Prabir Das along with Jordi,Anwar & Ashutosh would like to make a mark in this knockout clash for ATK while for Chennai City FC, veteran Dharmaraj Ravanan would like to lead with Shumeiko stopping the runs from the ATK power-packed frontline.
ATK well wishers would be hoping for a much anticipated turnaround and progress through to the main tournament without much headache resting upon the big names within the team to deliver on this night as we also wish the same from the ATKFans fraternity.
