As the weekend league football kicks-off after a two-week international break, India gets ready for the fourth season of ISL.

Three seasons and two trophies later ATK is unarguably the most successful outfit in ISL. The club co-owned by Atletico Madrid in the first three seasons. ATK owe much of their success to the Rojiblancos if not for their Spanish style of play influenced by the former managers both Antonio Habas and Jose Molina.Spaniards have also dominated their signings with a total of 15 players from Spain donning the red and whites in the first three season. Needless to say, the likes of Luis Garcia, Borja Fernandez, Javi Lara, Tiri, Jofre, Josemi are a few to have portrayed some exceptional ballgame over the years.

We head into the fourth season with a change in name ATK (formerly Atletico de Kolkata) and management. The shares which were formerly owned by Atletico Madrid was bought by Sanjiv Goenka. Teddy Sheringham (ENG) is our new manager. Although a veteran goal scorer for Tottenham and Manchester United, he is new to the managerial career. He was quick to garner the like of the fans with some brilliant signings. The likes of Robbie Keane, Carl Baker, Eugenson Lyngdoh and Robin Singh seems promising for the defenders.

One change fans would look forward to is the English style of play which tends to be more about strength and pushing forward quickly would be a real treat for the fans.ATK which has been more of a defensive side over the years influenced by the Spanish style of short passes and possession would look forward to a more attacking style of play this season.

Formation wise ATK has played 4-2-3-1 in the past.Teddy Sheringham would rather prefer his rather English style of 4-4-2 with two fullbacks operating wide up the field and solid Centre-backs in Tom Thorpe and Jordi Figueras and  DM in the likes of Conor Thomas and Shankar Sampingiraj. For the right backs, he has options in Ashutosh Mehta and Prabir Das to choose from while Keegan Pereira can be seen operating as the left back. The side also poses good wingers in Zequinha and Carl Baker.Ronald Singh being the other option in the wings to be tested. With Lyngdoh operating in the midfield, fans would be hoping for some goals.

Injury has always threatened the side over the years this year in the form of Robbie Keane who is set to miss the first two weeks. This leaves the side with an attacking set-back which leaves the side with Robin Singh pairing either with Jayesh Rana or Nzaji Kuqi.

Hoping for another year of great football and more victories.

This is the ATkfans wishing good luck for the new season.

come on India!!!Let’s football.
