Ashley Westwood’s ATK take on Alexandre Guimaraes’s side Mumbai City FC tonight at the VYBK Saltlake Stadium, Kolkata on their 15th match of the league. With 4 games to go, reigning champions, ATK are out of the race to qualify for the TOP 4 finish while MFC have an outside chance if they manage to win all of their remaining games including tonight’s one.
Ashley has been stressing on the fact of losing out on key players all season this year in his pre-match press conferences due to several injuries. Marquee recruit Robbie Keane will continue to sit out while this season’s successful foreign pick, Tom Thorpe is likely to miss out as he caught up with an injury in training yesterday. David Cotterill remains doubtful while Martin Paterson who plays tonight’s game is yet to make a mark in the red and white stripes.
Ryan Taylor and Bipin Singh remains to be the key in stitching things to ATK’s success which has been a hard struggle to get hold off all this season. With few games to go, if the players don’t look to perform at their best, it is highly unlikely for them to get hold of a contract with ATK or any of the ISL franchise next season assessing their onfield prowess and poor quality at this level. Westwood harped on the fact on whether their players lacked on motivation before these dead rubber games for the side this season by saying that they have picked professional footballers to represent their side and playing each game to win on the pitch should be their sole motivation and focus barring out the search for added incentives.
Alexandre Guimaraes will look to prevent a double for a struggling ATK side against them this season. They will look to find the winning ways and revive their chances in the back end of the season. With Balwant misfiring & Rafa Jorda still struggling to find his feet in the league for more than half the season it will still be an uphill task for them to strike a winning combination.
Achille Emana and Thiago Santos remain to be their key players along with centre-back, Lucian Goian. Amrinder will look to prove his merit and stop ATK from hitting their straps by scoring past him.
Can ATK find a long lost win under their belt and give their fans something to cheer about who have stuck on defending the pride of the side even after the horrid show this season?
